Kamil Khan has stepped away from his role with the Sialkot Stallionz franchise, marking a major leadership change just weeks before the upcoming Pakistan Super League season.
Khan, who had been associated with the franchise’s early cricketing and operational planning, confirmed his departure in a public statement, saying the decision was taken after careful consideration and internal developments within the ownership structure.
Franchise Faces Ownership Uncertainty
The development comes amid a broader ownership reshuffle within the Sialkot-based franchise. Reports indicate that a new investor has agreed in principle to acquire more than 90 percent of the team’s shares, effectively reducing the administrative control of the original ownership group.
The franchise was initially secured during the PSL expansion auction earlier this year, reportedly at a bid of Rs1.85 billion. However, financial and partnership challenges emerged soon after, leading to delays in guarantees and subsequent restructuring discussions.
Under Pakistan Cricket Board regulations, a complete transfer of ownership is restricted during the initial years of a franchise agreement. As a result, the incoming party is expected to operate as a strategic partner rather than an immediate full owner.
Leadership Changes Continue
Khan had played a visible role in early franchise planning, including involvement in player signings and management appointments. His exit follows other reported leadership adjustments within the Stallionz camp as the team prepares for its debut season.
The franchise had previously announced high-profile international signings and coaching staff appointments in an effort to build early momentum. However, the ownership transition has now become the dominant narrative surrounding the team’s preparations.
What This Means for PSL 11
The timing of the development raises questions about operational stability ahead of PSL 11. While league participation remains intact, continuity in management and financial backing will be critical in ensuring a smooth debut campaign.
Industry observers note that franchise stability plays a key role in commercial partnerships, sponsorship confidence, and squad planning. Any prolonged uncertainty could impact performance and branding efforts during the inaugural season.
An official confirmation regarding the new majority stakeholder is expected in the coming days.
For now, the Sialkot Stallionz face the dual challenge of restructuring ownership while preparing competitively for one of Pakistan cricket’s most high-profile tournaments.
