The Government of Pakistan has announced that the national cricket team will take the field against India national cricket team in their scheduled ICC T20 World Cup match on February 15, 2026, officials said on Monday. The decision follows diplomatic and sporting consultations involving the Pakistan Cricket Board, the International Cricket Council, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The announcement resolves days of uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in one of the tournament’s most high-profile fixtures. A delegation from the ICC had visited Pakistan over the weekend to engage with board officials and government representatives amid mounting calls from cricketing nations to maintain the integrity of the event.

High-Level Consultations Lead to Decision

According to the official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was formally briefed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on the results of multilateral talks. The government said it reviewed formal requests and supportive communications from a range of member nations, including Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh, all of whom urged Pakistan to reconsider its stance.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake spoke with Prime Minister Sharif, reinforcing the historical sporting ties between the two countries and advocating for the resolution of the impasse. The government statement described the communications as warm and constructive, citing long-standing cricketing partnerships.

Solidarity and Cricketing Spirit

The government emphasized that the decision is intended to uphold the spirit of cricket and support the continuity of the global game across all participating nations. Pakistan had faced pressure to withdraw from the India fixture in solidarity with Bangladesh after the Bangladesh team opted out of touring India over security concerns, leading the ICC to replace them with Scotland in the group stage.

Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s commitment to international cricket remains strong and that the team’s participation in the marquee match reflects efforts to balance sporting priorities with broader regional relationships.

Reaction and National Sentiment

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar welcomed the government’s directive, stating that the nation stands firmly behind the Men in Green and supports their role on the global stage. The statement expressed confidence that the team would carry the values of sportsmanship and national pride into the high-stakes encounter.

With both cricketing diplomacy and political leadership aligning, Pakistan’s participation against India will now proceed as scheduled, allowing fans and followers of the sport to witness one of the world’s most anticipated fixtures in modern cricket.
