Pakistan has condemned and responded firmly to what it described as unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the federal Information Ministry said on Thursday. Pakistani security forces were reported to have delivered an immediate and effective response aimed at silencing the hostile action.

The exchanges occurred across multiple sectors along the Durand Line, particularly in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Torkham and Tirah areas, where the Afghan Taliban allegedly initiated gunfire targeting Pakistani positions without provocation.

Border Incident and Military Response

According to official statements, the Afghan Taliban opened fire across several locations along the shared border, prompting Pakistan’s forces to respond swiftly to halt the aggression. The Information Ministry’s posts on social media platforms described the response as both immediate and effective in stopping the hostilities.

Pakistan maintains that its security forces took decisive action along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier to ensure the safety of its territorial boundaries and to deter further incursions. The reports also highlight claims that multiple Taliban posts and equipment were hit during these exchanges, with heavy casualties inflicted on the opposing side.

Government Statements and Warnings

Senior government officials, including Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, condemned the firing as a “cowardly” act and rejected propaganda circulating on social media from Afghan Taliban and other accounts about the incident. Tarar said such narratives are attempts to misrepresent the situation and hide battlefield setbacks.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry called the Taliban’s action indicative of a “gorilla mindset,” asserting that Pakistan’s response was befitting and that no entity would be allowed to threaten the country’s sovereignty. He emphasised Pakistan’s willingness to protect its citizens and territorial integrity by all available means.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson reiterated that any future provocations would meet an “immediate and severe” reaction from Pakistan’s security apparatus, underlining the government’s stance on defending its borders against unprovoked aggression.

Broader Context of Border Tensions

The exchange comes amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban forces, part of a wider pattern of border skirmishes and conflict. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghan-based militant groups, including elements tied to the Taliban, of using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan — allegations that Kabul’s administration denies.

Security analysts note that such engagements reflect deep mistrust and unresolved disputes over cross-border militancy and security cooperation, with civilians and trade along the frontier often caught in the fallout.

Pakistan’s official statements underscore that the latest firing and response are part of broader efforts to safeguard national security and maintain stability along one of South Asia’s longest and most sensitive borders.
