Balochistan Government to Recruit 4,000 School Teachers to Tackle Shortage

A major step has been taken by the Balochistan provincial government regarding the shortage of teachers in schools, as they announced the recruitment of 4,000 ad hoc school teachers. This has been announced amid concerns regarding the shortage of basic subjects such as teaching in English, Mathematics, and Science in various districts in the province.

Education authorities confirm that these new appointments form part of the Academic Excellence Program aimed at enhancing performance among learners who have been performing poorly for years because of understaffed schools as well as constant teacher absenteeism.

Addressing the Teacher Shortfall

According to the provincial Secretary of Education, Asfandyar Khan Kakar, many government schools in Balochistan continue to operate without enough qualified subject specialists. The shortage is most acute in secondary and middle schools, where core academic subjects are crucial for student progression.

“Schools in Balochistan are currently facing a shortfall of 70 to 80 per cent in these key subjects,” the education secretary said, highlighting the extent of the staffing crisis.

Officials said the recruitment will target Grade-17 teaching positions, which typically cover experienced educators capable of handling essential academic courses.

The absence of qualified teaching staff has long been an area that has hampered the improvement of the standard of education in Balochistan, as it is among the provinces with the lowest rates of literacy and school attendee enrollment in the whole of Pakistan.
