Pakistan’s energy regulator, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), has rejected rumours circulating about an increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices, stating that no new notification regarding a price change has been issued.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the regulator clarified that LPG prices are announced once a month under the prescribed pricing mechanism, with any new rates taking effect from the first day of the month.
Officials stressed that the currently notified price remains valid, and claims suggesting a fresh increase are incorrect.
Consumers Urged to Report Overcharging
OGRA also warned LPG distributors and retailers against overcharging customers. The authority urged consumers to ensure that LPG is sold according to the officially notified rates.
The regulator advised the public to report any instances of price manipulation or overcharging to the local district administration so that immediate action can be taken against violators.
Authorities said the move is aimed at protecting consumers and maintaining transparency in the LPG market across the country.
Energy Concerns Amid Regional Tensions
The clarification comes at a time of growing concern about energy prices due to volatility in global markets linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The government recently increased petrol and diesel prices by around Rs55 per litre, reflecting rising international petroleum costs.
Officials have warned that global energy market instability could continue to affect domestic fuel pricing in the coming months.
Government Promises Consumer Relief
Despite the pressure from rising global energy prices, the government has indicated it will try to shield consumers from the full impact of international price increases.
Energy regulators say maintaining stable LPG prices where possible remains important for households that rely on the fuel for cooking and heating.
